This course will meet solely online synchronously, at the originally scheduled day and time, and asynchronously. Further instruction will be provided by the instructor. It requires reliable internet access and computer literacy; and the ability to self-manage independent learning assignments according to deadlines. In place of classroom activities, online work may include independent mastery assignments, discussion boards, videos with quizzes, writing assignments, and other active learning experiences. Students are responsible for completing these online learning experiences by the specified deadlines and in accordance with instructor requirements. This course may include some field trips to the Walters Museum, Basilica of the Annunciation, and the Green Mount Cemetery, COVID protocols permitting. Field trips will be cancelled if COVID prevents a safe visit. More information will be provided by the instructor. Angels and Demons in Art: Medieval to Modern: This course will involve an in-depth study of the visual depictions of supernatural entities in the history of Western art. Beginning with the ancient origins of their visual characteristics, students will study the iconography of various artforms involving personifications of angels, demons and the devil beginning in the early medieval period and continuing through the modern era.
