Notes
Have you ever wondered how and why things work the way they do? Have you ever felt that your math skills prevent you from understanding science? If so, this is the perfect course for you! In Ideas in Physics, we will explore the physical concepts that underlie much of the universe. Some of the topics include motion and the laws that govern it, energy and its usage, light and color, and Einstein's Theory of Relativity. The main focus of this course is to develop your conceptual understanding of nature, and then couple that understanding with some basic algebra to make predictions. We plan to have synchronous lectures during the designated class time, which will let me help you navigate through concepts and work out problems. The online textbook reads like a story book and is interactive. After taking this course, you should have an appreciation for science and the scientific endeavor, but most importantly, you should be able to make informed decisions regarding matters of science. *** Students in this class are expected to have reliable access to WiFi, as well as a computer with microphone and webcam.*** This is a synchronous online course. Students are expected to attend class online during the days/times listed in the meeting pattern. It requires reliable internet access and computer literacy; and the ability to self-manage independent learning assignments according to deadlines. In place of classroom activities, online work may include independent mastery assignments, discussion boards, videos with quizzes, writing assignments, and other active learning experiences. Students are responsible for completing these online learning experiences by the specified deadlines and in accordance with instructor requirements.
