Description
A modern treatment of cell structure and function, with emphasis on the molecular architecture, biochemistry and regulatory mechanisms common to all cells. Topics include membrane structure, function and transport; molecular mechanisms of energy metabolism and its associated organelles; the structural and molecular basis for the expression of genetic information; the organelles involved in the regulation of cell shape and motility; and selected cell functions, growth, reproduction and their control. This course is designed for students interested in the biological sciences, biochemistry and the allied health professions.
Enrollment Requirements
You must have completed BIOL 141, BIOL 142, BIOL 302, and CHEM 102. You must have completed MATH 150, MATH 151, MATH 155 or have equivalent AP credit or placement into MATH 151. All prerequisites must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better.
Notes
This is a fully online course. It requires reliable internet access and computer literacy; and the ability to self-manage independent learning assignments according to deadlines. In place of classroom activities, online work may include independent mastery assignments, discussion boards, videos with quizzes, writing assignments, and other active learning experiences. Students are responsible for completing these online learning experiences by the specified deadlines and in accordance with instructor requirements. This course will utilize synchronous and asynchronous online delivery. Students must attend the synchronous sessions following the stated meeting pattern.
