Description
A survey of the ethical constraints on the practice of medicine, biomedical research using human and nonhuman animals, and the delivery of health care. Specific topics will include doctor-patient confidentiality; autonomy, competence, and medical decision-making; ethical issues at the beginning and end of human life; and controversial biomedical technologies such as cloning and stem cell research. Recommended Preparation: PHIL 150, PHIL 152, HAPP 350

Pre-Req: You must have completed one course in PHIL with a grade of 'C' or better.

Also offered as PHIL 358.*** Class will meet on-line during the scheduled time for at least the first session of the semester. Instructor will contact students prior to this first meeting to explain how to access that meeting. Instructor will explain the teaching format for the remainder of the course during this first meeting session. On line courses require reliable internet access and computer literacy; and the ability to self-manage independent learning assignments according to deadlines. In place of classroom activities, online work may include independent mastery assignments, discussion boards, videos with quizzes, writing assignments, and other active learning experiences. Students are responsible for completing these online learning experiences by the specified deadlines and in accordance with instructor requirements.
